The GX-Force is RKI’s smallest personal 1-4 gas monitor with a strong internal sample pump capable of a 100’ sampling range. Weighing only 9.8 ounces, the GX-Force can monitor the standard confined space gases (LEL combustibles, Oxygen, Carbon Monoxide, and Hydrogen Sulfide). Utilizing the same micro-sensor technology, which are compatible with the GX-3R, GX-3R Pro, 04 Series, and Gaswatch 3 instruments.
With the GX-Force, you have multiple tools in one instrument. Having 2 operating modes, the GX-Force can be used for confined space, safety monitoring in its Normal Operating mode. A Leak Check mode is the solution for leak investigations. In Leak Check Mode, the GX-Force can monitor for combustibles in the ppm range.
The GX-Force operates 30 hours on a Li-ion battery, and has a large LCD display showing all gas readings, battery level, current time and automatically backlights in alarm conditions. Standard alarm types include vibration, visual, and audible alarms, which can be set to latching or non-latching. Controlled by a microprocessor, the GX-Force continuously checks itself for sensor connections, low battery, circuit trouble, low flow, and calibration errors.
Calibration and bump test intervals and reminders are user adjustable and can be set to either go into alarm or to lock the user out of normal measurement mode once a calibration period has expired. Calibration can be done individually or in a group.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the RKI GX-Force (72-FA-A-A10) a good gas monitor for confined space entry?
Yes. The RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 is a 4-gas confined space monitor that detects the four standard confined-space gases — combustible gas (LEL), oxygen (O2), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) — in one instrument. It runs in a Normal operating mode for confined-space and personal safety monitoring, and it has a built-in internal sample pump with a 100-foot sampling range, so you can pre-test a space (a tank, vault, or manhole) from outside before entry. It's intrinsically safe, IP67 water- and dust-resistant, impact-resistant, and runs about 30 hours on one charge. This SKU ships with a 10-foot sample hose and probe, a belt clip, and a Li-ion battery with a 100–240 VAC USB Type-C charger, plus free shipping from Industrial Safety Products.
What gases does the RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 detect and what are the sensor ranges?
The RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 is a 4-gas monitor that detects combustible gas (LEL), oxygen (O2), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S), with CO and H2S measured on a combination sensor. The detection ranges are: combustible gas 0–100 % LEL (1 % LEL resolution), oxygen 0.0–40.0 vol % (0.1 vol % resolution), carbon monoxide 0–2,000 ppm (1 ppm resolution), and hydrogen sulfide 0.0–200.0 ppm (0.1 ppm resolution). The combustible sensor uses catalytic combustion; the O2, CO, and H2S sensors are electrochemical. T90 response times are within 30 seconds for CH4 (40 s for hydrocarbons), 20 seconds for O2, and 30 seconds for both CO and H2S.
Is the RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 intrinsically safe and what hazardous-location approvals does it carry?
Yes. The RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 is intrinsically safe and rated for use in hazardous (explosive) atmospheres. It carries IECEx approval (Ex da ia IIC T4 Ga / Ex ia IIC T4 Ga), ATEX approval (II1G Ex da ia IIC T4 Ga), and is certified for North American hazardous locations — Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, and D, as well as Class I, Zone 0. This makes it suitable for refineries, oil and gas, petrochemical, and other environments where flammable gases or vapors may be present.
What is the sample-draw pump on the RKI GX-Force, and how far can it sample?
The RKI GX-Force uses a built-in internal sample-draw pump that pulls air to the sensors, with a nominal flow rate of 0.5 LPM and a 100-foot (100') sampling range through a hose and probe. A hydrophobic filter protects the sensors from moisture. This lets you remotely sample a confined space — such as a tank, sump, sewer, or vessel — from a safe distance before anyone enters. The 72-FA-A-A10 configuration includes a 10-foot sample line and probe plus a tapered rubber inlet nozzle. RKI describes the GX-Force as its smallest personal 1-to-4 gas monitor with a sample pump.
What is Leak Check mode on the RKI GX-Force gas monitor?
Leak Check mode is a second operating mode on the RKI GX-Force (in addition to Normal mode) that lets a single instrument do double duty. In Normal mode the GX-Force works as a confined-space and personal safety monitor; in Leak Check mode it monitors combustible gas in the ppm range, making it a tool for pinpointing and investigating gas leaks. Combined with the internal sample pump and 100-foot hose reach, this lets you both survey a space for entry safety and hunt down a leak source with one device.
How long does the RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 battery last, and how does it charge?
The RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 runs approximately 30 hours on a full charge from its rechargeable lithium-ion battery (measured at 25 °C, no alarm, no backlight). It charges over USB Type-C, and the kit includes a 100–240 VAC wall charger plus a USB A–to–USB C cable that also handles data downloads. The same USB Type-C port is used for both charging and connecting to a computer for the data logger.
How small and rugged is the RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 for everyday personal monitoring?
The RKI GX-Force is compact and lightweight for all-day wear: it weighs about 9.87 ounces and measures roughly 2.52" wide × 6.81" high × 1.85" deep, with an easy-to-grip design and a belt clip included in the 72-FA-A-A10 kit. It's built for the field with an IP67 water- and dust-resistant, impact-resistant body, a large auto-backlit LCD, and an operating range of -20 °C to +50 °C (-4 °F to +122 °F). RKI calls it its smallest personal 1-to-4 gas monitor with a built-in sample pump.
RKI GX-Force sample-draw vs a diffusion 4-gas monitor — is the pump worth it?
It depends on the job, but the sample-draw pump adds real capability. A diffusion monitor only reads the air immediately around it, so you'd have to physically enter or lower it into a space. The RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 has a built-in internal sample pump with a 100-foot reach (and a 10-foot hose and probe in the box), so you can pre-test a confined space from outside before entry — a core requirement for safe confined-space work. It also adds a dedicated Leak Check mode for ppm-level combustible leak hunting. If your work involves confined-space entry or leak investigation, the pump is the reason to choose it over a basic diffusion unit; for simple personal monitoring in open air, a diffusion monitor may be enough.
What are the alarms and data-logging features on the RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10?
The RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 provides three alarm types — vibration, visual (flashing lamp), and audible (buzzer, approximately 90 dB at 30 cm) — and each gas alarm can be set to self-resetting (non-latching) or latching. Its self-diagnostics continuously check for sensor, system, and clock faults, low battery, calibration failure, pump abnormality, and low flow. For record-keeping, the built-in data logger stores up to 3,600 items at a user-adjustable interval (default 5 minutes), and readings download over the USB Type-C connection.
What warranty comes with the RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10, and are its sensors field-replaceable?
The RKI GX-Force 72-FA-A-A10 comes with a 3-year warranty covering materials and workmanship. Its sensors and filters are field-replaceable, and the micro-sensor technology is shared with RKI's GX-3R, GX-3R Pro, 04 Series, and Gaswatch 3 instruments, which simplifies sensor stocking across a fleet. Calibration and bump-test intervals and reminders are user-adjustable and can be set to either trigger an alarm or lock the user out of measurement mode once a calibration period expires.
