3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 Detachable Cable Sleeve 3/8 in. (9.5 mm)

Sleeve with carabiner, dual independent locking system, fits 3/8" (9.5 mm) diameter 1x7 or 7x19 solid core cable.

The Lad-Saf™ flexible cable system consists of a top and bottom bracket that act as anchors for a steel cable that runs the length of the climbing area. A Lad-Saf™ X3 sleeve connects the worker to the system, automatically follows the user during the climb and locks onto the cable in the event of a fall, allowing the user to regain their footing. Designed for ease of use, economy and versatility, optional brackets/designs are available for bolting or welding the system, choose rung clamp sizes/styles, choose systems for straight or curved ladders and for connection to wood, concrete or steel structures. Hundreds of different brackets, styles and configurations are available to suit almost any application. In addition, the versatile system can be used by up to four workers simultaneously for added jobsite flexibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 cable sleeve a good choice for climbing fixed ladders safely?

Yes. The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 is a detachable cable sleeve that connects a climber's harness to a Lad-Saf vertical cable ladder safety system. As you climb a fixed ladder, the sleeve travels smoothly with you, and if you fall it locks onto the 3/8 in (9.5 mm) cable within a short distance so you can regain your footing. It meets ANSI A14.3-1992 and ANSI Z359.16, has a 310 lb (141 kg) capacity, and ships with free shipping from Industrial Safety Products. Note it is the sleeve only — the cable, brackets, and guides are ordered separately.

What is the 3M DBI-SALA Lad-Saf X3 cable sleeve and how does it work?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 is the traveling sleeve of a Lad-Saf flexible cable ladder safety system. In that system, a steel cable runs the full height of the climbing area, anchored by top and bottom brackets. The X3 sleeve clips to your harness and rides the cable, automatically following you up and down. If a fall occurs, the sleeve's dual independent locking system grabs the cable and its built-in energy absorber cushions the arrest, letting you regain your footing on the ladder.

What safety standards does the 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 sleeve meet?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 Detachable Cable Sleeve meets or exceeds ANSI A14.3-1992 (the standard for fixed ladders) and ANSI Z359.16 (the standard for climbing ladder fall-arrest systems). It is rated for one user with a 310 lb (141 kg) capacity and is intended for industrial and occupational use only.

What cable does the 3M DBI-SALA Lad-Saf X3 6160054 sleeve fit?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 sleeve fits 3/8 in (9.5 mm) diameter 1x7 or 7x19 solid core cable. It is designed specifically for Lad-Saf vertical cable systems using that 3/8 in cable; the sleeve is marked "use only 3/8 in (9.5 mm) solid core cable." The cable, top and bottom brackets, and guides are ordered separately from the sleeve.

What makes the 3M Lad-Saf X3 "detachable" — can I connect and remove it anywhere on the cable?

Yes — that is the key feature. The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 can be installed onto or detached from the lifeline anywhere along its length, so you don't have to climb to the bottom of the cable to get on or off the system. This makes it faster and more convenient than sleeves that only attach at one point, letting workers join or leave the ladder safety system at any height.

What are the dual locking system, energy absorber, and fall indicator on the 3M Lad-Saf X3 6160054?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 has a dual independent locking system, meaning two separate mechanisms engage the cable to stop a fall for added reliability. It also has a built-in energy absorber that reduces the forces on your body during a fall arrest, and a fall indicator with a swivel that shows whether the sleeve has been subjected to a fall — a visual cue that it must be removed from service and inspected.

What is the weight capacity of the 3M DBI-SALA Lad-Saf X3 6160054, and how many workers can use the system?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 sleeve is rated for one user with a weight capacity of 310 lbs (141 kg). The sleeve itself is single-user, but a complete Lad-Saf cable system can support up to four workers climbing simultaneously — each worker uses their own X3 sleeve on the shared cable. The sleeve weighs about 2.1 lb (1.0 kg) and has a compact, corrosion-resistant stainless steel design.

How does the 3M DBI-SALA Lad-Saf X3 6160054 connect to a harness?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 connects to your harness with a built-in Saflok self-locking carabiner made of zinc-plated steel. The self-locking gate gives a secure link between the climber and the cable sleeve, following the connection point specified in 3M's user instructions for ladder climbing.

Does the 3M DBI-SALA Lad-Saf X3 6160054 have RFID for inspection tracking?

Yes. The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 has an integrated RFID tag and is i-Safe equipped, so it works with RFID inventory-management systems. A safety manager can scan the sleeve to log inspections, track its service history, and manage fall-protection equipment records, which helps keep the gear compliant and up to date.

Does the 3M DBI-SALA Lad-Saf X3 6160054 include the cable and brackets, and does it ship free?

No — the 6160054 is the Lad-Saf X3 sleeve only. The steel cable, top and bottom brackets, and cable guides are ordered separately, because Lad-Saf systems are configured per ladder with hundreds of bracket and mounting options. The sleeve is a compact, lightweight (about 2.1 lb / 1.0 kg) rugged, corrosion-resistant stainless steel unit, and it ships with free shipping from Industrial Safety Products.

What jobs and industries is the 3M DBI-SALA Lad-Saf X3 6160054 used for?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6160054 Lad-Saf X3 is used for fall protection while climbing fixed vertical ladders on straight-ladder structures. 3M recommends it for general industrial, oil & gas, transportation, utilities, and wind energy applications — for example, climbing towers, tanks, stacks, and turbines. It is for industrial and occupational use only and provides continuous hands-free fall protection during the climb.
