Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Stainless Steel Lad-Saf Cable Vertical Safety System a good choice for fall protection on a fixed ladder?

Yes. The 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf is a permanent vertical safety system (vertical lifeline) built for climbing protection on fixed ladders and similar structures. It ships as a complete 40 ft kit in a single SKU — top and bottom brackets, 40 ft of pre-swaged 3/8 in 1x7 stainless steel cable, and one cable guide. Its mounting brackets adapt to a variety of fixed-ladder rung spacings and shapes, and it supports up to 2 users at once. It meets or exceeds ANSI Z359.16, OSHA 1910.29, OSHA 1926.1053, and RR-W-410, making it a compliant choice for ladder-climbing fall protection.

What safety standards does the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf vertical safety system meet?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Stainless Steel Lad-Saf Cable Vertical Safety System meets or exceeds ANSI Z359.16, OSHA 1910.29, OSHA 1926.1053, and RR-W-410. When used together with a Lad-Saf X3 (6160054) or Lad-Saf X2 (6160030) detachable cable sleeve, the system is also designed to meet ANSI Z359.16 along with OSHA 1910.140 and OSHA 1926.502, helping keep fixed-ladder climbing in compliance with current fall protection standards.

Why is the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf made of stainless steel — how does it compare to the galvanized version?

The 6119040 uses a 3/8 in 1x7 stainless steel lifeline cable, which offers superior corrosion resistance versus the galvanized-steel version (model 6118040). Stainless steel is the better choice for marine, coastal, offshore, high-humidity, wash-down, or chemically aggressive environments where galvanized cable would corrode faster. Both versions are otherwise the same platform: a 40 ft, 2-user Lad-Saf vertical safety system meeting ANSI Z359.16 and OSHA standards, with a top-bracket anchor rated to 3,600 lbs. Choose stainless (6119040) for corrosive settings; galvanized (6118040) for standard industrial exposure.

What is included in the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf 40 ft system kit?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 kit is a complete vertical safety system sold in a single SKU. It includes the top and bottom mounting brackets, 40 ft (12.19 m) of pre-swaged 3/8 in (9.525 mm) 1x7 stainless steel cable, and one cable guide. The whole system weighs about 31.6 lb and was reengineered to fewer than 13 separate components. The detachable cable sleeve/traveler is not included and is ordered separately — the compatible options are the Lad-Saf X3 (6160054) and Lad-Saf X2 (6160030).

Does the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf system need a cable sleeve, and which one is compatible?

Yes. The 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 provides the lifeline (brackets, cable, and guide), but each climber must connect through a detachable cable sleeve/traveler, which is sold separately. The compatible sleeves are the 3M DBI-SALA Lad-Saf X3 (6160054) and Lad-Saf X2 (6160030); on Industrial Safety Products the X3 sleeve (6160054) is offered as an add-on option. The sleeve attaches the user to the 3/8 in (9.5 mm) lifeline and glides along it while ascending or descending, and it is required for the system to meet ANSI Z359.16.

How many workers can use the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf system, and what is its weight capacity?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf is a 2-user vertical safety system — up to two workers can be attached to the lifeline at the same time. It has a rated weight capacity of 310 lb per user, for a total system capacity of 620 lbs (281 kg / 140 kg per user). Each user requires their own compatible Lad-Saf detachable cable sleeve (6160054 or 6160030), sold separately.

What is the anchor rating of the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf system, and does it offer 100% tie-off?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf provides 100% tie-off capability through an integrated, fall arrest-rated anchor point built into the top bracket, rated to 3,600 lbs. This lets a worker stay continuously connected — including during transitions at the top of the climb, such as egress off the ladder onto a platform — without an exposure gap in fall protection.

What applications and industries is the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 stainless steel Lad-Saf system designed for?

The 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 Lad-Saf is designed for climbing protection on fixed ladders and similar vertical structures across General Industrial, Telecommunications, and Wind Energy settings. Recommended applications include billboard maintenance, water tower ladder climbing, grain bin and grain silo access, oil derrick climbing, and wind turbine climbing and maintenance. Its 40 ft stainless steel cable makes it especially suited to taller, corrosive, and outdoor environments. It is for industrial/occupational use only — not for consumer sale or use.

Is the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 stainless steel Lad-Saf worth it compared to a basic vertical lifeline setup?

For fixed-ladder climbing in corrosive conditions, yes. Rather than piecing together separate parts, the 3M DBI-SALA 6119040 arrives as one complete, pre-swaged 40 ft kit engineered to meet ANSI Z359.16 and OSHA standards, with a corrosion-resistant stainless steel cable and a top-bracket anchor rated to 3,600 lbs for 100% tie-off. It supports 2 users, adapts to different ladder styles, and was reengineered with fewer than 13 loose parts (up to 72% fewer than the older model) — so it installs faster and stays compliant. It's an industrial-grade permanent system, and it ships with free shipping.
